Coastal Waters District’s very own Troop 100 was asked to help retire The Channel Point Village’s worn US flag. This flag had proudly flown at their facility, and was recently replaced.
Scoutmaster Rick Strom and scouts were honored, and proudly preformed a solemn flag retirement ceremony for the residents and Veterans of this facility. Troop 100 would like to make this an annual event. Thank You for this opportunity. US Flag Code reads; “The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.”
BSA recommends, “When the national flag is worn beyond repair, burn it thoroughly and completely on a modest, but blazing fire. This should be done in a simple manner with dignity and respect. Be sure the flag is reduced to ashes unrecognizable as a former flag.”
“This was so special for my residents; I actually saw a few tears. They said they had never seen a retiring of a flag ceremony before.
