Country Meadow Village hosts shredding party
SEDRO-WOOLLEY-Residents and staff at Country Meadow Village, 1501 Collins Road, did their part to save the environment.
They recently partnered with Sound Shredding and Recycling for a parking lot shredding party. They invited local businesses and neighbors to bring documents that needed to be destroyed.
People were able to drive right next to the operation and watch it work.
Sound Shredding’s mobile unit shredded 1,575 pounds of paper to be recycled-the equivalent of 2.05 trees approximately 100 feet tall. After the shredding was completed, people enjoyed homemade treats prepared by the Dining Services Department.
“We thought this was a great opportunity for our neighbors and friends to get rid of all the papers that continue to pile up in their homes and businesses,” said Country Meadow Village executive director Tracy Willis. “We had residents bring down items that they have stored for years to get shredded. It is a great feeling for all of us to know that we are taking part in saving the earth. Every little bit helps. We are planning on making this a yearly event at Country Meadow Village.”
Earlier in the month the retirement community held it’s annual “Renew and Reuse Sale” raising more than $400 for the Country Meadow Village Holiday Giving Tree. Willis works closely with a local school to find a family that is working hard but struggling to make ends meet.
“Our residents contribute also by purchasing specific presents for the family,” Willis said. “The ability to make a kid smile is so rewarding.”
Over the summer, the housekeeping and maintenance staff started using environmentally friendly cleaning products. Housekeeping supervisor Brandi Rigby is pleased with the results.
“It is nice to know that these cleaners are safe to use,” Rigby said. “The residents are happy that we are being earth friendly with out cleaning products. We are helping to save the earth for their grandkids.”
