Volunteers from two local Girl Scout troops and students from Sedro-Woolley High School recently pushed their spades into a community garden while thinking about springtime beauty.
The youth helped residents and staff at Country Meadow Village near Sedro-Woolley plant 1,500-plus tulip bulbs.
Country Meadow Village Program Director David Bricka said Washington Bulb Co. donated some of the bulbs, which are expected to bloom in time for viewing by visitors during the 2011 Skagit Valley Tulip Festival in April.
“We had a perfect rain-free day to plant all of the bulbs,” Bricka said. “It was wonderful having so many kids of all ages filling the courtyards with laughter and frivolity.”
Nancy Jankelson, Assistant Festival Director, said the students’ newly created flowerbeds in the resident community’s two interior courtyards will be featured in the 2011 Festival brochure as a new sanctioned
event on April 13. The event, called Tiptoe Through Our Tulips at Country Meadow Village, will feature artist John Ebner signing copies of the 2011 festival poster.
Jankelson encourages more community participation in the 28th annual Festival.
“We like to involve as many people as possible from all over the Skagit Valley,” Jankelson said.
