Amy Cox and Gordon Rux are the senior royalty from Grandview Village.

Rux was born in South Dakota but moved to Washington, lived in Lake Stevens for 62 years and has lived in Marysville the last 17 years.

He served in WWII in the Philippines, Okinawa and Saigon.

For 33 years he was a volunteer fireman in Lake Stevens and responded to many emergency and fire calls.

“In those days, you had to have volunteers because you didn’t have enough people there to pay the tax to hire people,” he said.

Rux was also the postmaster for Lake Stevens for many years.

He has two children.

Cox has lived in the area for many years and taught school in the Marysville and Stanwood areas.

“I taught business education, so I liked the fact that I was watching students prepare themselves for their future, and because I had majored in business education I knew how valuable it was,” she said.

Her son now follows in her footsteps and is a teacher in Marysville.

She also has a daughter in eastern Washington. Se said she’s liked watching Marysville change during the time she’s lived here.

“I love the Marysville area. I’ve been here over 60 years, so it’s grown from a very small town to have mass transportation and development,” she said.
