Washington State Poet Laureate for 2012-2014, Kathleen Flenniken, will be the guest speaker for the Plateau Area Writers Association’s June meeting at High Point Village. She will be reading from her her second book, “Plume”, followed by a Q&A on June 12th from 11-12 noon. Kathleen Flenniken’s first book, “Famous”, won the Prairie Schooner Book Prize in Poetry and was named a Notable Book by the American Library Association and a finalist for the Washington State Book Award. “Plume” has been selected by Linda Bierds for the Pacific Northwest Poetry Series and will be published in Spring 2012 by University of Washington Press. In “Plume”, she writes almost exclusively about Handford, where plutonium was produced for 40 years and her home town, Richland, Washington. “…it’s part memoir, part history lesson, part cautionary tale, part quest.”
